DMT'17: At the 21st annual Digital Mapping Techniques workshop in Minneapolis from May 21 – 24, 2017, ~100 geoscientists, cartographers, and GIS professionals from geological surveys and allied agencies in the US, Canada, and elsewhere will meet to discuss geological map cartography and GIS, as well as geological information system design and management. The meeting will be hosted by Minnesota Geological Survey on the University of Minnesota campus.

LOCATION: The meeting will be held near the Mississippi River, at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs on the West Bank campus, in the Humphrey School Conference Center at 301 19th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55455. There will be ample parking across the street for $6/day – you may enter parking on Riverside Ave just west of 19th. Minneapolis weather in late May will typically be a high of 70°F or 20°C, with occasional showers.

HOTEL: The conference hotel will be the Courtyard Minneapolis Downtown at 1500 S Washington Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55454, where DMT attendees will be offered a $149 rate. Hotel options are available on the train lines or elsewhere.

TRAVEL: Both meeting site and conference hotel are a 5-minute walk from the West Bank train station on the Green Line. You can take the Blue Line train from the airport for a couple dollars, and change trains at US Bank stadium. A taxi will be a 20-minute ride for ~$40 or so. Your travel to Minnesota’s Twin Cities will be eased by many options for flights to MSP airport.

TOURS: A free Minneapolis-St Paul city tour, with some geology, will be offered from 1 to 5 PM Sunday for those who sign up before the limit is reached. Registration will be 5-7 PM Sunday at the hotel. Sessions will be 830 AM to 5 PM Monday and Tuesday, and 830 AM – noon on Wednesday. A tour of the Minnesota Geological Survey – at 2609 West Territorial Road, St Paul MN 55114, one block north of the Westgate train station on the Green Line – will be offered Monday evening from 7 to 8 PM.

REGISTRATION: The fee for meeting and catering will be $190; or $225 after May 1. Included in the registration fee are refreshments during breaks, and box lunches on Monday and Tuesday. Refunds will be offered for cancellations before May 1. Registration is now open. Please register here.

ACTIVITIES: While in the Twin Cities, you will have many options for nearby add-on activities, such as galleries, Minnesota United FC soccer against LA Galaxy Sunday afternoon on campus, WNBA Lynx vs. the Sun Tuesday night in St Paul, Twins baseball against the Royals Sunday afternoon, US Bank NFL stadium tours, rent-a-bike cycling or running on nearby trails along the river, shopping at Mall of America, music, or hiking. You may need to buy tickets way in advance for some of these things. And, please come see the famous Minnesota geological map quilt in the Wilson Library next to Humphrey.
